Larry Caplan
is an Extension Educator for horticulture in Vanderburgh County
(Evansville, Indiana). He has worked with Purdue University since 1986.
Larry received his Bachelor's degree from
Rutgers University, and a Master's degree from the University of
Illinois - both degrees in horticulture.
Larry is a Certified Arborist and an
Indiana Accredited Plantsman. He was a founding member of the Indiana
Forest Council, and a past board member of the Wesselman Woods Nature
Preserve in Evansville.
Larry is also a member of the
International Brotherhood of Magicians! Larry has been using his magical
skills to teach horticultural topics since 1992. He performs more than
50 magical horticultural lectures each year. He entertains and teaches
both youths and adults; farmers and city-dwellers; professional
horticulturists and home gardeners. He has performed throughout Indiana,
and for Master Gardener and professional conferences in Kentucky, North
Carolina, Michigan, Wyoming, and Alaska.
Larry has won numerous national awards
through the National Association of County Agriculture Agents for his
high quality educational programs. He won a first place national award
in 1996 for his magical presentation on Alternatives to Pesticides, and
demonstrated his abilities at the NACAA National Convention in
Nashville, Tennessee. And in 1997 Larry received, on behalf of the
Southwest Indiana Master Gardener Association, the Purdue University "Breaking
New Ground Best Practices Award" for his demonstration exhibit, "Gardening
for People with Physical Disabilities".
